CRANFORD HOLLOW (Hilton Head, SC)
It’s a boot stomp on a dusty bar floor. It’s the clang of a whiskey bottle at last call. It’s grit. It’s the sounds of the South. It’s Cranford Hollow, a blended mix of Southern Rock, Appalachian Fiddle Music and American Rock and Roll.
The Hilton Head Island quartet, comprised of vocalist and guitarist John Cranford, bass man Phillip Sirmans, drummer Randy Rockalotta, and fiddler and vocalist Eric Reid, have won over thousands of loyal fans with what they call Lowcountry Stomp, a sound that is at once eclectic but uniquely their own. Elements of Blues, Old-Time Country, and Southern Psychedelic Rock come together with ancient mountain melodies in an energetic, engaging musical root bag sprinkled with some Sea Island hoodoo. Since 2011 Cranford Hollow has been playing upwards of 200 shows a year, steadily expanding from the South Carolina Lowcountry to places as far afield as Eau Claire, WI, Livingston, MT and Taos, NM. “St. Telluride”, Cranford Hollow’s fourth studio album, was released on August 18, 2015 and features ten new original tracks.
“It’s a regular performance home for Cranford Hollow, currently the island’s hottest original band courtesy of an aggressive blend of American and Celtic influences and the allure of ambitious front man John Cranford. He arrived from Wisconsin in 2008 and first stepped on stage at an open mike night hosted by the Mundahs’ Watkins, and the pair would form Treble Jay with top-notch percussionist Johnny Ruxton. Cranford also teams up occasionally with scene mainstay Vicars in Flux, the island’s only outfit playing dubstep and other offshoots of electronic dance music.”
MICHAEL PASKEVICH – Hilton Head Monthly
“I jumped into the magnificence that was Cranford Hollow. Picture this: a hardcore blend of rock and Americana with a fiddle and a top hat present on stage, wicked charisma, boot stomping, hair flips, and all of these elements blended so well that you keep being pulled back into the vortex. I was mesmerized. There was something primal about the way they fed off each other’s energy. Their presence seemed to flood off the stage.”

“CRANFORD HOLLOW, a great up and coming band out of Hilton Head, SC. Cranford Hollow’s sound is self -described as “dirty grit rockabilly-blues-folk-explosion straight from the heart of the Lowcountry.” This is their “Lowcountry to Mile High December 2013 Tour.” The band has performed over 600 shows in their 2 years together and has become a mainstay of the South Carolina and southeast music scenes, packing bars all along the Atlantic Coast. The band released a self-titled album on October 25 and will be pushing to expand their tour base nationally in 2014.”
“But the standout songs in their shows are their originals, created individually and collaboratively. Cranford said the band typically works together on songs to put the pieces of the puzzle together and create the finished product.”
CAITLYN MCGUIRE – The Daily Gamecock
“Cranford Hollow is the epitome of the working band, with a driving force that brings the Lowcountry life to a boil in a blaze of scratchy vocals and fiddle-drenched melodies. With more than 750 shows and two albums under their belt, they have toured the Southeast, Midwest and West for the last three years with their bartender’s blend of Southern rock and Americana.”
Joshua Peacock – DO Savannah
“With the release of their second album and their growing success and popularity in the Southeast, Cranford Hollow was picked up by a booking agency out of Denver and has a tour slated in the West for December.”
