Everyone in Midnight Revel hails from Mississippi and call Hattiesburg home. Their ties to the deep musical heritage of the area can be heard and felt in their music, which reflects the spirit and rich lineage of rock, funk, soul, and jazz found in acts such as the Allman Brothers Band, Bill Withers, and The Meters. It’s nearly impossible to listen to their music without letting your body move. Their live shows are dynamic experiences that rely heavily on in-the-moment improvisation in order to provide a unique, fresh experience every show.

In January, 2019, Midnight Revel released their first full-length album (recorded at Downman Sounds Studio in New Orleans), which went on to win the award for Album of the Year at the 2019 Best of the Pine Belt ceremony. They have been touring the Southeast extensively throughout 2019, traveling as far as Savannah, GA and Charleston, SC. They have opened for many national music acts, including as Tim Reynolds (of Dave Matthews Band), JJ Grey & Mofro, Greyhounds, The Weeks, and Flow Tribe, and they are equally at home on large festival stages and in tiny cafes.

“When you hear a band like Midnight Revel play, you’re hearing much more than just the sum of five great musicians. You’re hearing chemistry- nearly imperceptible communication- and the experiences of these men. ”
– Jake Stevens – Signature Magazine

LowDown Brass Band (LDB), deftly synthesizes the gritty sounds of Chicago with the high energy street beat of the Crescent City. LDB brandishes a powerful brass frontline of trumpets, trombones, saxophones, with a funky backline of drums and sousaphone. Combining the poetic ferocity of Billa Camp with stellar vocal harmonies, adventurous improvisation, movement, and grooves, LDB creates an infectious and diverse sound that has something for every listener.

Fresh off their headlining set at The 2018 Montreal Jazz Festival, LowDown maintains a constant performing and touring schedule throughout North America. Recent performances include the Lagunitas Beer Circus, Chicago Jazz Fest, Frendly Gathering, Alaska’s Salmon Fest, Chicago’s Do-Division Fest, Wakarusa, Cotai Jazz Fest, and a annual residency at Shoe Fest.

Following an ambitious project titled LowDown Sounds, that included a critically acclaimed cameo by Roy Ayers on the track Everybody Loves The Sunshine, LowDown Brass Band is now touring their 2018 hip hop release titled LowDown Breaks featuring MC Billa Camp. This new record steps deeper into refining their unique sound, combining hip hop breaks with live soul samples and deep cut grooves.

“Not exactly Slipknot, but not exactly John Philip Sousa either. What it is, exactly, is AWESOME!”
– Chicago Sun Times

There’s a reason why performers as distinct as Dumpstaphunk and trombonist Wycliffe Gordon would want to perform with the Lowdown Brass Band on tracks such as “Ghost Town,” the first listen selection form the ensemble’s latest project LowDown Breaks. The LowDown Brass Band hits hard with a horn section that can harmonize when playing in unison, while also the individuals possess the chops to step out on their own. That horn section is backed by drums that play funk and hip-hop – all in that classic New Orleans shuffle march style. That instrumental talent is on display on “Ghost Town,” a track where the band confirms what other instrumental hip-hop groups such as The Roots have made obvious for years – that musicians can match the most skilled MC.”

Lord Nelson has won many fans over the last several years with their spirited live performances and serious musical chops. Those fans should raise a glass, because they’re about to get their ears blown off with the new full-length album Through the Night, set for a late spring release. The album possesses a depth of sound that can only come from the frequent addition of piano, organ, and horns to guitar-based rock. This set of songs, written on the road and between tours, explores dark themes of relationships, the political climate of the country, and what it means to spend your days in a van, traveling the highways of America.

Musically, the songs don’t hesitate to dive deep into grooves, peeling off that outer layer of song craft to illustrate a wide palate. With haunting guitars, a driving rhythm section, and big chorus’, this album represents a thin coat of finish on a hard worn sound. The lead-off single “Tail Lights” grapples with the joys and challenges of the road for those on it and those left at home. Other standout tracks include the powerful “Second Chances,” the zeitgeist commentary of “Southern Discomfort” and “Safety Meeting.” A moment of levity with the swamp tinged “Good Time” provides a snapshot into the simple pleasures.

Produced over the last year by Dave Stipe (Rockfish Music) at Monkeyclaus Studio in Nelson County, VA, the record has a full, Rock’n’Roll identity, heavily laced with Americana and Soul. Whether it’s a fat horn section under a slide guitar riff, propelling it powerfully forward, or a harmony vocal giving the song an extra dimension, the album illustrates the power of a band bringing lyric driven songs to full expression. As anyone who has seen their live show will tell you, while there are several excellent solos and impressive individual moments, the thing that gets you – the thing that keeps you coming back – is that full sound. Sonically, the band is greater than the sum of its parts, in the best possible way.

The unified musicianship of the band serves as a solid home base for the searching lyrics of lead singer and guitarist Kai Crowe-Getty. In addition, the band’s multi-instrumentalist, Henry Jones, takes a break from keys and trombone to jump on the mic for a few tracks, bringing an R&B urgency. The current lineup includes Jones’s brother Calloway on lead guitar, Andrew Hollifield on bass, and Johnny Stubblefield behind the sticks. With a full tour of the east coast and points west in the works, this is a band in command of their sound, bringing strong songs in hard times to towns across the country. Keep your head up.

The Aquaducks have been making waves in and around Music City as a high octane funk and soul band with a live energy that is rarely matched. The Ducks’ first two singles “Nightlife” and “Bill’s Toupée” immediately caught the attention of local radio station Lighting 100, and have continued to receive regular air play. Described by Brooklyn, NY blog Pancakes and Whiskey as “Dripping with enough funk to fill several swimming pools,” The Aquaducks have created a new sound with influences ranging from Earth Wind & Fire and Stevie Wonder to Lettuce and James Brown.

The Fall of 2016 has seen The Aquaducks’ song “What’s Goodington” featured the movie trailer for “Baked in Brooklyn” as well as the release of their debut full length live album “Live at the Beast.” Fans new and old are now able to experience the high energy show that has critics calling them “probably one of the best duck-themed funk bands of all time.” In the meantime, if The Aquaducks are playing in your town, put on some dancing shoes and go see one of the best live bands that Nashville has to offer.

Josh Hoyer & Soul Colossal’s combination of soul, funk and R&B is in a word, electric. Best displayed in their high-energy live show, the blend of Hoyer’s honest lyrics and his rich, intensely soulful vocals merge with his top-notch band to create an undeniable chemistry.

Hoyer formed Josh Hoyer & Soul Colossal in 2012 in famed blues town Lincoln, Nebraska. The award-winning five-piece band includes some of the area’s most revered and accomplished musicians. Joining Hoyer (keyboards/vocals) is Benjamin Kushner (guitar), Blake DeForest (trumpet), Mike Keeling (bass), and Larell Ware (drums). Inspired by the sounds of Stax, Motown, Muscle Shoals, New Orleans, Philly and San Francisco, the band continuously crosses musical boundaries both in style and era, and joins forces each show with a common goal – to have the crowd dancing so much they forget even their smallest troubles.

On January 26th, 2018, Hoyer released “The End of the Night”, a 3-song EP and solo side project with veteran Nashville songwriters Jay Knowles (Harry Connick Jr, Blake Shelton), and Jon Coleman (Trace Adkins). In the spring, Josh Hoyer & Soul Colossal are set to record their fourth full length record at Make Believe Studios in Omaha, NE, with Grammy-nominated engineer, Rick Carson. The album will be released in Europe in August of 2018, followed by a 7-week European tour before its US release.

In 2017, Josh was featured as a contestant on NBC’s The Voice, and the band completed their first European tour; a 27-city stint capped with a live album release from their show in Brussels, Belgium. The hard working band completed several national tours from 2015-2017, playing more than 150 shows in 32 states each year, including opening for George Clinton, Charles Bradley, Booker T Jones, and Muscle Shoals Revue. Their year-round touring schedule took them from coast to coast, including several major summer music festivals.

In 2016, the magic of their live show caught the attention of producer Ken Coomer (Wilco, Uncle Tupelo), who joined with the band to record their third full-length album. Running From Love, was recorded at Nashville’s historic Sound Emporium, and once again features Hoyer’s trademark vocals and the band’s signature groove. The album was released on April 8, 2016, on Silver Street Records, and is available on vinyl, CD, and digital formats.

“If James Brown and Otis Redding had a love child, it would be Josh Hoyer. The Lincoln, Nebraska, soul shouter, and his band of merry soulsters, Soul Colossal, deliver a sound so big, so funky, so wring-the-sweat-out-of-you energetic that it reaches through the speakers and shakes you until you start moving to its groove.” – No Depression

LowDown Brass Band (LDB) deftly synthesizes the gritty sounds of Chicago with the high energy second-line street beat of the Crescent City.

Fresh off their appearance at The 2017 Chicago Jazz Festival, LowDown maintains a constant performing and touring schedule throughout North America. In 2015, LDB released an ambitious project titled “LowDown Sounds” that included a critically acclaimed cameo by Roy Ayers on the track “Everybody Loves The Sunshine.” LowDown Brass is now set to begin the next chapter with the release of their 5th self-produced full length studio album “LowDown Breaks.” This new offering steps deeper into refining their unique sound, combining the hip hop sound with multiple world music and jazz styles.

“LowDown Breaks” sounds as if it could be comprised of samples – as if every instrument came off an old soul record – the drum “break” from a JB’s record, or a horn blast ripped from an Al Green cut – and that was the idea from the beginning. But there are no samples on this record except in the transitions: DJ Alo (The Dread/Chicago) and Laelo (Sousa/Producer) sampled the LDB horns and drums, cut up them up, replaced, remixed, and create”LowDown Breaks.” This concept is a nod to the breaks used by the original DJs and producers from the Golden Age of Hip Hop and gives the album a sound akin to “The Apache” or “Funky Drummer” while always sounding new and fresh.

“Lowdown Breaks” includes several marquee collaborations with stellar artists including: Chicago rapper Ang13 on “Cold Shoulder,” Fada Dougou on “Don’t Wait! Right Now!,” DJ ALO and The Dread on “Ghost Town” and “Can I Kick It”, as well as a remix for the video for “Can I Kick It” by Nick The Graduate (Illuminati Congo/Chicago). The album was tracked in Chicago at The Drake by Anthony Gravino (Davy Knowles/Marquis Hill) and mixed by legendary hip hop engineers/ producers Alex Gross and Dan Zorn at Studio 11. As track #1 iterates – LowDown breaks tradition, breaks expectations, and makes a break for your ears.
