Lord Nelson has won many fans over the last several years with their spirited live performances and serious musical chops. Those fans should raise a glass, because they’re about to get their ears blown off with the new full-length album Through the Night, set for a late spring release. The album possesses a depth of sound that can only come from the frequent addition of piano, organ, and horns to guitar-based rock. This set of songs, written on the road and between tours, explores dark themes of relationships, the political climate of the country, and what it means to spend your days in a van, traveling the highways of America.
Musically, the songs don’t hesitate to dive deep into grooves, peeling off that outer layer of song craft to illustrate a wide palate. With haunting guitars, a driving rhythm section, and big chorus’, this album represents a thin coat of finish on a hard worn sound. The lead-off single “Tail Lights” grapples with the joys and challenges of the road for those on it and those left at home. Other standout tracks include the powerful “Second Chances,” the zeitgeist commentary of “Southern Discomfort” and “Safety Meeting.” A moment of levity with the swamp tinged “Good Time” provides a snapshot into the simple pleasures.
Produced over the last year by Dave Stipe (Rockfish Music) at Monkeyclaus Studio in Nelson County, VA, the record has a full, Rock’n’Roll identity, heavily laced with Americana and Soul. Whether it’s a fat horn section under a slide guitar riff, propelling it powerfully forward, or a harmony vocal giving the song an extra dimension, the album illustrates the power of a band bringing lyric driven songs to full expression. As anyone who has seen their live show will tell you, while there are several excellent solos and impressive individual moments, the thing that gets you – the thing that keeps you coming back – is that full sound. Sonically, the band is greater than the sum of its parts, in the best possible way.
The unified musicianship of the band serves as a solid home base for the searching lyrics of lead singer and guitarist Kai Crowe-Getty. In addition, the band’s multi-instrumentalist, Henry Jones, takes a break from keys and trombone to jump on the mic for a few tracks, bringing an R&B urgency. The current lineup includes Jones’s brother Calloway on lead guitar, Andrew Hollifield on bass, and Johnny Stubblefield behind the sticks. With a full tour of the east coast and points west in the works, this is a band in command of their sound, bringing strong songs in hard times to towns across the country. Keep your head up.
“Though only five on the stage, they generate enough sound for double that, and that’s just the music coming out of them and creating a ruckus. Whether it’s harmony driven, southern rock guitar lickin’, or foot stompin’ porch pickin’, they are at home in the music they make – unique, almost spiritual, and powerful.”-Nashville 360

It’s a boot stomp on a dusty bar floor. It’s the clang of a whiskey bottle at last call. It’s grit. It’s the sounds of the South. It’s Cranford Hollow, a blended mix of Southern Rock, Appalachian Fiddle Music and American Rock and Roll.
The Hilton Head Island quintet, comprised of vocalist and guitarist John Cranford, bass man Phillip Sirmans, drummer Randy Rockalotta, fiddler and vocalist Eric Reid and newest member guitarist Yannie Renencke, have won over thousands of loyal fans with what they call Lowcountry Stomp, a sound that is at once eclectic but uniquely their own. Elements of Blues, Old-Time Country, and Southern Psychedelic Rock come together with ancient mountain melodies in an energetic, engaging musical root bag sprinkled with some Sea Island hoodoo. Since 2011 Cranford Hollow has been playing upwards of 200 shows a year, steadily expanding from the South Carolina Lowcountry to places far afield including multiple western tours. The band’s most recent Swampfire records release “Color/Sound/Renew/Revive” has the band poised to break nationally in 2017 as they tour to support.

“It’s a tribute to his growth as a musician that this much firepower could appear on an album that stays resolutely in service to the song.” — John Swenson, Offbeat Editor-at-Large
When New Orleans guitarist Billy Iuso changed his musical course on 2013’s “Naked,” his newly sharpened focus on singing and lyric writing received critical acclaim — and plenty of love from his national fan base. Now front and center in a way they’ve never been before, Billy’s earthy vocal tone and the disarmingly raw sentiments embedded in his lyrics lend a richer dynamic to the muscular fretwork that’s always powered his performance. Combined with shifting blues-rock textures, echoes of psychedelia and soulful New Orleans funk rhythms, the results paved the way for a reinvigorated, more song-centric direction in Billy’s artistic output.
In 2014, he took those concepts a step further, returning to the studio to record “Overstanding” with an all-star cast of special guests including George Porter and Art Neville. Citing Porter and Neville as well as Bob Marley, Paul Weller, Steve Winwood and Traffic among his many muses, Billy explains that as he matures, inspiration comes from a mix of words, sounds and musicians. “I’m writing more songs as I get older,” he says. “Sometimes a new song comes from a story, sometimes from a guitar riff – each one has its own life.”
A New York native who formed the funky, psychedelic guitar-fronted Brides of Jesus in the early ‘90s, Billy quickly developed a strong following on the Wetlands scene alongside Warren Haynes, Blues Traveler and the Spin Doctors. As the Brides’ popularity continued to soar, they shared bills with Widespread Panic and the Dave Matthews Band. While touring and collaborating with a host of key members of the jam band community, Billy explored the roots of the bands that influenced him most – including Little Feat, whose music turned him on to the Meters. Eventually, he opened for the Funky Meters at shows across the country. It wasn’t long before George Porter and Art Neville were encouraging him to relocate to New Orleans permanently, which he did in 1996.
Billy quickly established himself on the live music scenes, forming the Restless Natives in 2002 and performed regularly with the Wild Magnolias, Anders Osborne and as an original member of Dead Feat alongside Grateful Dead alum Bill Kreutzmann and Little Feat’s Paul Barrere and Fred Tackett.
Today, the Restless Natives remain a local music scene staple, along with Billy’s acoustic performances he also frequently can be found on the guitar with old friends like Porter and Neville amongst many others.
